Dog Park

The Dog Park at the Ta’Qali picnic area is the first public park of its kind to open in the Maltese islands. The area is spread over a 1000 square metres ground and is enclosed by a fence.
It is natural for a dog to want to socialise and play with other dogs and a Dog Park is the perfect setting for a dog to be able to run off leash under the supervision of its owner, without worrying about traffic hazards.
The dog park has an ideal setting where the dog can get its exercise and play with other dogs. It offers a double gated entrance and exit and incorporates dog playing equipment such as cover tunnels, weave poles, hound hoops, hurdle jumps, dog teeter, hound hurdles, dog walk ramps and also drinking water facilities. The Park is set to be extended to double its area in the near future with added facilities for small dogs.
Dog bins can also be found on the perimeter of the area.
First time visitors should visit the park at off peak times and, to maintain a safe environment for all, there are a set of dog park rules that dog handlers/owners owners must follow:
  • When entering the park, dog owners/handlers are accepting full responsibility for themselves, their children/guests and their dog/s while in the park. Visitors enter and use the facility at their own risk.
  • Owners/handlers are legally responsible for any damage, injury, or illness their dog/s may cause to itself, yourself, other people or other dogs. Particular care should be given to children to avoid undue injury from interaction with dogs.
  • Only dogs that are registered and identifiable (micro chipped) are allowed into the park.
  • Dog handlers/guardians must be at least 18 years of age. Children under this age are not permitted in the park with their dog unaccompanied.
  • Dog owners/handlers must supervise their dog/s and keep a leash at hand at all times. Handlers cannot leave the park without their dog/s.
  • All off-leash dogs must be under voice control of their owners/handlers. If you cannot control your dog off leash, kindly keep your dog leashed at all times.
  • A maximum of 3 dogs per handler is allowed in the park.
  • Dogs showing signs of aggression must be removed immediately. Moreover, temperamental dogs shall be kept muzzled at all times.
  • Dog owners must ensure that their dog/s have been adequately vaccinated before using the park. Sick or injured dogs and dogs with any external or internal parasites are strictly prohibited to enter the enclosed area.
  • Choke, spike and prong collars are not permitted in the park.
  • Enter with caution if other dogs are already present within the park. Please discourage your dog/s from standing at or near the gate as people are trying to enter. Do not enter if another dog is at the gate unattended.
  • Dog waste must be cleaned up by their owners/handlers immediately and disposed of in the designated bins.
  • Dogs in heat, aggressive dogs and puppies (under 4 months of age) are prohibited from entering the park. Animals other than dogs are not allowed in the park.
  • No food whatsoever is allowed in the park. Only small dog treats are permitted. Smoking and alcoholic beverages are also forbidden within the enclosed area.
